Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the effect of cosmetic acupuncture last?
Results can last from 3 to 5 years. Patients can also come in for monthly maintenance (one session) to sustain and lengthen the effects of cosmetic acupuncture.

How does acupuncture work?
The needles are strategically inserted into the body to stimulate the brain signals and increase the blood and immune cells to the body points. Further, the needles stimulate the release of neurotransmitters (such as endorphins, enkephalins, and seratonin) in the brain. Neurotransmitters are responsible for sending information to all cells in order for the body to function. These neurotransmitters stop pain and improve the wellness of the body.

Is acupuncture effective and safe?
When you are treated by a qualified and licensed acupuncturist, the acupuncturist will safely administer the techniques to stimulate and enhance the biochemical and physiological conditions of the body. Acupuncturists study the human anatomy and have learned the techniques to operate with acupuncture needles safely. Over the course of treatments, your symptoms should decrease and the body left feeling more relaxed and energized. It is not uncommon for patients to fall asleep during the treatment. Other conditions in the body may also become alleviated and improved as a positive side effect to acupuncture.

Severe and life-threatening health conditions are best handled by Western medical doctors. People often benefit from oriental medicine for routine health and chronic problems that have not been alleviated by drug therapy or surgery.

What happens during an acupuncture treatment?
The needles are left in place for twenty to forty minutes. Sometimes, the acupuncturist will twirl the needles or apply heat or a weak electrical current to enhance the effects of acupuncture.

Does acupuncture hurt?
Most people are surprised to find that acupuncture causes little or no pain as acupuncturists work with fine needles that are hair-thin. If any, some people may feel a brief stinging sensation, like a pinprick, during insertion of the needles or a dull ache around the needle after it is inserted. Done properly, acupuncture rarely causes serious side effects.

What is expected in an acupuncture examination?
Treatment courses for acupuncture can range from one visit to a few weeks. Usually the first visit is the longest (roughly one and a half hours) as the acupuncturist records the patient’s comprehensive history and assesses the patient’s condition. Follow-up visits are generally shorter, usually 30 to 45 minutes, depending on patient needs. During the initial consultation, the acupuncturist will exam the patient’s tongue, check the pulse in various places, measure the built of the body, and diagnose the stomach and back for a comprehensive and holistic examination
